LILY ASHROWAN

Lily Ashrowan (b. 1999) is an artist based between the rural Scottish Borders and London and these disparate geographies inform her work. She works across film, photography, writing and performance to produce work which explores themes of memory and embodiment: thinking of movement as a syntax, and language as a medium that can be treated choreographically. She draws from personal experience and histories including: rural landscapes, platonic intimacy, familial history, generational trauma, queer sex and nightlife to think through political desire and materialist histories. Following her BA in Fine Art and Art History from Goldsmiths University of London in 2022, she undertook a Junior Fellowship in Fine Art Research. She has worked for festivals including BFI London Film Festival and Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival. In 2024, she co-founded MEZZANINE, a project space an set of affordable artist studios in South Bermondsey which runs events, exhibitions and more.
